Individually Designed Master's of Education Program for Educators
The Graduate School of Education offers an exciting new online Master of Education (M.Ed.) individually designed degree program that can be tailored to meet a teacher's individual personal and professional goals. This 33-credit program consists of nine courses (27 credits) of electives, in which the student can design an area or areas of concentration or an interdisciplinary plan, and two courses (6 credits) of research and evaluation coursework that complete the program.
Elective Choices (27 credits)
Depending on your individual needs, you may choose from a variety of online courses in the areas below to fulfill elective requirements. For example, you could strengthen your skills and knowledge in math while also deepening your understanding of theory, research, and classroom practices in special education. Or you could learn to better integrate technology into the curriculum and in the same program obtain practical and research-based strategies for teaching English to speakers of other languages and culturally responsive teaching. Select from courses in:
- Autism
- Instructional technology
- Mathematics in education
- Science in education
- Special education
- Teaching English to speakers of other languages
- Teaching online
Research and Evaluation Courses (6 credits)
EEDUC 6126 Classroom and School InquiryClassroom and School Inquiry focuses on the understanding and critical analysis of educational research and methods for accurately communicating this information to the public. As teachers participate in redefining their educational roles, decision-making and action-oriented classroom practice will be critical in promoting student learning. Both require problem-solving, which is enhanced by the forming and testing of hypotheses, gathering data that is then analyzed, synthesized, and evaluated, and generating solutions. This course will engage students in this process by acquainting them with the knowledge and techniques necessary for them to become lifelong teacher researchers, and to present the results of their research effectively and professionally to a variety of audiences.
EEDUC 6127 Action Research and Seminar
Students demonstrate their expanding understandings and competencies as teachers. They also collaborate with several classmates to design a research project that can have a direct impact on their school community, through which students may extend the research plan developed in an earlier course, EEDUC 6126. Prerequisite: Successful completion of EEDUC 6126 or an equivalent research course.
Endorsement or Second License Within the Individually Designed Master's Program
Students who wish to obtain an endorsement or second license may focus on a particular area or areas of study in the subjects above. See endorsements and licensure page.
